I think I'm getting FIRED on Monday...Rating: (votes: 0) I'm having a hard time adjusting to the new culture at work just getting used to of new equipments, new doctors, new approach, new everything. Well it's been a month and my orientation was extended to 2 weeks but yet, the nurses who are orienting me do not feel comfortable for me to be on my own yet. In addition, I'm still very slow in everything I do. I was out of a job for about 7 months before landing this current one. I've forgetten some things and this was obviously while I was on the floor. So today, Friday, my director wanted to talk to me... bascially she asked me what they can do to help me... She went on saying, I have a lot of potentional but worth the investment but she also has new travelors coming in as well as new grads to train...etc. Anyways, she said she would talk to me again on Monday. After the discussion, I went back onto the unit to copy my schedule since I remember tha morning they pencil me until next week Friday....but I realized they had erased me all next week but left me on for Saturday Sunday and Monday. Are they firing me or letting me go because I'm not a good fit? I'm very suspicious... ![]() Calm down! The people that never worry about getting fired are always the one to be let go last.... So get you a drink and pull yourself together. They know that working the floor is tough. Comment:
I don't know. In my opinion, I don't really think they would be asking you what you need to help you progress if they are just going to fire you. From what you described it sounds like you are in a rare situation that your manager wants to work with you and help you succeed. You should come up with a list of where you need improvement and what you need help with and present it to your manager.

If she was going to fire you on Monday, why would she have not done it on Friday? It's hard to tell...but I would agree that she is looking for a way to help you succeed. We had a new grad who entirely failed in orientation, not just slow, but she was not right for the job...our manager worked really hard to find her a unit that worked better for her. Be pro-active, make the list that ckh23 suggests. Ask for more precepting with someone you liked....and hopefully this is just the beginning of your job at this place!

If so, that is awful that they are having you work the weekend first. You are good enough to staff their unit on the weekend, but not after that? That's like "you're fired as of Monday, but work the weekend first so we're not screwed staffing wise." That is horrible but unfortunately not surprising that a nursemanager would do that. Only in nursing.I am leaning towards you NOT being fired. Maybe they just want to change your schedule around or put you with a different preceptor starting next week, and that's why your schedule is erased. I really hope they are going to work with you on this. However, the nursing world is vicous. Good luck.

I agree with the posters that say the manager seems to want to help you succeed. My opinion about the weekend is probably that it is slower on weekends and maybe that could be more managable and give more experience.I could be wrong, but that's my opinion.

Quote from ElladoraBecause weekends are hard to fill. Sounds crazy, but it's happened at our facility a few times. Someone gets fired but only AFTER working a weekend and/or a shift that no one would cover. So OP - how did it go? Best of luck to you!

I've also seen the Monday morning sacking happen. Unless there was some pressing reason that they needed to get the nurse/staff member out of there ASAP, the hospital is not going to leave themselves scrambling to fill a weekend schedule where a good percentage of the staff has already called off. So they'll wait and let them go when the staffing crisis has passed.

The OP posted this on Friday August 24th. Monday would have been August 27th.I really wish (s)he would come back and post an update as to what took place.

If she's still orienting how would she help staffing at all? Presumably while orienting they're paying you and your preceptor to do the same job, right?

Are you still there?
