Dumb Question From an Experienced RN...

who should probably know this, but do people still get diagnosed with stomach ulcers? I haven't heard of anyone having that diagnosis for years, but my mom had one back in the 1970s and I have all the exact same symptoms: nausea and an aching pain that radiates from my upper mid-epigastric region through to my back that is temporarily relieved by eating bland foods. I am also feeling bloated, gassy, and constipated. I do have IBS and have had occasional bouts with it in the past, so those symptoms could possibly be another flare up of that. I am very type A, and I have been dealing with the stress of a new job, an in-law being diagnosed with terminal cancer, and some issues with my mom, and I know that ulcers and episodes of IBS can be brought on by stress. I don't have any symptoms of anything worse, such as weight loss, fatigue, bleeding, etc. or I would definitely be going to see my family doc, but I don't want to spend the money to do that if it's just a flare up of IBS and will go away on its own, since we have very limited insurance. Just got a clean bill of health from my OB/GYN last month from my yearly check up as far as any problems with my reproductive system, also a clean mammogram. I have to work tonight and I feel kind of icky.

Any thoughts?

They will probably test you for H Pylori which can cause ulcers- I just got tested recently but thankfully negative

No worries. You'd just get a more accurate--and probably faster--response if you called your doctor's office to ask, since they know you and your medical history far better than any of us do Take care.
