will it be like starting over?

I don't know why I am so worried about starting a new job at a different place, but I am just afraid that it will be like starting all over again. I hated that first 6 months when I started out on my own, the dread and the feeling that I did not know anything (and there was so much I did not know, it was true). Not knowing the doctors, being slow at charting, learning the IV pumps. It sucked! I now have a solid experience base that makes me feel competent, but all the other stuff I have to learn all over again, geesh. I just don't want to have it be like starting all over. Don't get me wrong I'm very excited to start my new job and am so glad to be working at the facility. It's not that. I just like to feel like I know what I am doing and am good at it. I feel like that at my current job.

Was it like starting over for you experienced nurses when you changed jobs if the charting system was totally different? What if the equipment is different too? How long did it take you to become fast and efficient?
Yes it is like starting over in a sense but having a knowledge base and some experience really helps with the confidence. You will be surprised how easily you pick up a new charting system or learn how equipment works. It may be easier or better than what you were using before! I don't know how long it took to but I found that I was able to focus more on learning the system, equipment and lay of then land because I already felt comfortable doing patient care/nursing skills. Change is hard.You will be taking the nursing experience you have earned with your everywhere. The EMR and IV pumps will be taught to you in orientation.Learning the routine of the unit and the docs will come quickly enough.Time to learn and grow.... change is worth it.
