What organizations do you belong to?Rating: (votes: 0) Also interested to hear how many of you carry your personal malpractice insurance? Thanks! mk Just joined the ANA. I mean, like last week. And as a school nurse I am part of a very small, very weak union. And yes, I have my own malpractice insurance.Other than that I belong to 2 lovely Book Clubs and the PTA. Comment:
I have been a member of AORN (organization for OR nurses) since beginning my job as an OR nurse. It comes with a complimentary membership to ANA, although I don't support many of the things the ANA does.As for malpractice insurance, I am a big believer in that every nurse should carry his/her own policy. Sure, the facility may tell you their policy covers you, but the facility's lawyers are going to be looking out for the best interests of the facility- and if that means throwing the nurse under the bus, so be it. Having your own policy means having someone in your corner focused on what's best for you and you alone. They also offer other coverage, such as representation at BON hearings and coverage for HIPAA fines. I have my policy through NSO.Another take on malpractice insurance: http://allnurses.com/general-nursing...ry-391596.html
