Newly hired nurse

Hello, wasnt sure where to post this but i recently was hired for a neuro/spine unit and some questions that hopefully you guys can answer especially someone who deals with scheduling.

So i started my orientation on monday, first 2 weeks in company orientation and what not. Then i start my floor orientation, i already have my schedule for the month of march.

My question is i planned a week vacation in the begining of april for about a week. I have bought the plane tickets and resort fees and everything. I was wondering if the manager of the unit will allow me to take this week off even though im still in orientation under a preceptor. Has anyone had this experience.

Thanks for your responses
Sorry for the bad editing using my phone.
well, i never scheduled a vacation while i was orienting, so i can't be in your shoes, but... from what gossips i hear between coworkers of present and past, pulling something like that is a bad idea if i was the manager though, i wouldn't care but still, nursing culture is somewhat like fire department in miniscule scale; they still make you earn your place. i hope you get your break though.

Last year I booked and paid for a trip that ended up being in the middle of my orientation long before I got interviewed and hired for the job. In this scenario my new employer was okay with it since it was arranged before I was hired. However I would never book a trip after hire knowing that it fell during orientation. Doesn't look good and there is a higher likelihood of them saying no

I've done this, and it wasn't a problem. Although, I told the manager after I was hired but before I started working and before they made a schedule for me. And, I offered to reschedule my vacation if needed. If I were the manager, I might be a little peeved that you didn't mention this awhile ago.

Well i just found out about the position about 2 weeks ago, i was waiting to talk to my manager in person about ny trip plans. This is my second day of orientation and i wont be on the floor for the next 2 weeks. I don't believe the schedule for April has been made yet. Ive already book this trip. I just assumed that they would of asked me if i had any plans due to acquiring this new job.

It really would have been better if you had brought this up as a part of your acceptance of the position. That's when these issues are usually raised and resolved. At this point, only your facility/managers can answer your question. I'm not sure why you're waiting to talk to your manager - do it now.
