Difficulty finding that first position

I don't know what to do either because I graduated and can't get into the job world. Everywhere I have tried I run into a wall. I just keep going around in circles and have not gotten a job yet. I keep hoping that not all nurses have this much trouble finding work right out of college. Last edit by NRSKarenRN on Mar 22, '06
Rita,This concerns me. Everywhere I look I see jobs advertised. I keep hearing about this so called nurse shortage. As a student, I sure do not want to go through all of nursing school, ect only to find out that there really are no jobs available. It is also the same in the business world. I keep reading that companies are hiring new grads at a record pace, and the future for "business" job applicants is extremely bright. I just do not know anyone who knows where the so called jobs are (I do not even want to be in the business world any longer). Holly

For those of you new grads looking for a job - have you considered or is it possible to relocate? Sometimes what is a nursing shortage in one area, isn't in another.

What type of job are you looking for? Are you only interested in certain types of jobs ... or a certain work schedule ... etc.? Or are you flexible?llg

I am serious... I been a LPN since Dec... and still looking for work.... Is it truly this hard for new grads to get a job.... Everywhere I went ...I filled out an application, and then they ask about experience.....EVERYWHERE IS ASKING FOR EXPERIENCE.... How can I get some if you won't let me in your door for some...

I started out in a night shift even though I didn't want to. After 16 months, I got a transfer to days. There are plenty of jobs, but you must be willing to get that initial year or two of experience wherever they will hire you. Usually at a hospital working the night shift. Good luck to you.
