VA Nurses

I am going to be starting my prerequisites to become an RN and was wondering if I could get a job at a VA Hospital if I am not a veteran? If anyone could help me with this, I would appreciate it! Thanks!
Yes, the VA employs many non-military, non-veteran staff.

Yes you can. Just like most facilities there are a shortage of nurses. The VA in Hampton, VA has posted job offers on USA Jobs. Check it out. The process can take 3-4 months so get started early. Good luck.

Same is true in the Tampa Bay area, where we have two VA's. I got a job at a VA in nursing school without being a vet.Good luck!

How do you like the facility Tweety?
Comment:
I worked at the VA in Fayetteville, NC and liked it pretty much as a tech. I declined to work there when I graduated however, because the RN to patient ratio was too high.

I heartily recommend the VA system. Not only is the money good, the vacation time for RNs is fantastic (26 days/yr), you can choose what type of nursing (LTC, acute med, surgery, psych, homehealth, teaching, etc) you get 25% extra for weekend days, 10% extra off tours, double pay holidays....Consistetly safe staffing levels (at least in Ohio--and in every other I've spoken with nurses)Like any other place there are policies and procedures but at least you get paid for it--and as for the 1st thread of today...NO WAY would a doctor get away with hitting a nurse
Comment:
After I get me license and some experience I will definitely be looking into VA facilities to work for a while.
