Changing Career

I am interested in changing my career and going into Nursing. I have first degree in Psychology. Whilst I'm a candidate for an accelerated BSN course, it feels rushed to me and I'm always scared of being in debt (especially in this economy). Alternatively I could go to the local community college and become an RN in 4 years, while maintaining my current career, health insurance, saving money, tuition reimbursement and so on.

I know I'm leaning towards the latter because I'm a cautious person but wanted to know if anyone had done the accelerated BSN and what they thought of it. Pros and cons. Any thoughts versus doing the AAS degree?
