New grads and JobsRating: (votes: 6) What do you guys think? I agree with you. It is frustrating being a new grad and being shot down. Comment: I know it sucks...I was mad when I went for one of 27 positions at a hospital but realised when I had got there they had decided to not shortlist anyone and interview all the applicants (they'd told us they had interviewed groups of 100 for the past couple of weeks). There were thousands going for the positions. I had to take time off work arrange a babysitter and travel an hour all for a small chance. The experience recieved from placements is not highly regarded and never seems to contribute to get a job. Its all very annoying. Its just they can't be arsed to train new grads. *ranting*Comment: Quote from AF NurI think Hospitals especially the ones that students go for rotation should be REQUIRED by some nursing regulation to hire a cetain number of new graduates. ?Comment: I did not say anything about firing anyone. There are oppurtunities in other floors that I am sure that the "experienced" nurses who are working on med-surg would like to move to. there are always positions. The thing I am mad about is expecting new grads to have experience which technically they do. Whoever they hire, they still will train. It is not ok to have a new grad waste time in the unit and then graduate only to wait again at home for a year without a job.Comment: Quote from AF NurIt is not ok to have a new grad waste time in the unit and then graduate only to wait again at home for a year without a job.Comment: I am thankfull. but is that not counted as experience? since they train everyone anyway? I was just venting guys. I know there are different perspective to everything. I am just not too happy that I did not get a job for a year after graduating due to the "experience needed" requirement.Comment: Quote from AF NurI am thankfull. but is that not counted as experience? since they train everyone anyway? My nursing school is through a local hospital...not to mention the hundreds and hundreds of clinical hours we've completed over the past 4 years, and they still don't show preference to its own grads. The grads they do hire from the college they do give a $100 scrub allotment and 40 hours of ETO...but there is clearly not any preference.I think the only reason I got lucky is because I already worked in the system as a PCA. I got a job in the ED, and out of the other dozen or so they hired only two were from the hospital's affiliated college. Ridiculous.Comment: Quote from Jules AI hear ya and can't imagine how frustrating it must be not to be able to find a job especially because I always suggest contacting a supervisor on a floor you liked and excelled as a student. Keep trying and you will find your spot somewhere. Hang in there.Comment: Quote from sunrockCheck out Linkedin.comComment: This is a new link i joined from EC connection.
