I want to go back to school but not sure if being a RN is for me.Rating: (votes: 0) Quote from gr8lvn-rnI have been an LVN for the past 3 years and in the medical field for the past 10 years. I want to go back to school but not sure if being a RN is for me. I am sort of ready for a change...any suggestions???? Comment: Perhaps shadow RNs who work in different specialties to see if this career pathway is something that you might want to consider. Good luck with the decision-making process.Comment: Getting my RN was the best and most painless thing I have done career wise. It was short, sweet, only 9 months and cheap at a community college. My pay increase was huge and the opportunities it afforded me even when I just had my ADN were nearly limitless. Good luck with whatever you decide.Comment: I think you have gotten some good advice. Nursing really provides a good income in comparison to some other health care disciplines, and also there are a variety of opportunities. I believe nurses have more opportunities to work in different areas then any other discipline because of the generalist scope of our license. There is one field that I like to bring to your attention and that is health information technology and management. That is a field that offers quite a bit of diversity. You can go to a two year college for it or a four year program. It does not provide you with the level of income that an RN does starting out but it does provide you with the knowledge and skills to either supervise or direct a medical records department, become a clinical data analyst, privacy and security officer, revenue cycle manager, product analyst and the list goes on and on. If you find that this is a field worth investigating, check out AHIMA Home - American Health Information Management Association.
