Professional References for employment

I recently passed my boards and am beginning to apply to local hospitals. I am feeling unsure about who to list as my references. I do have a couple work references, but they aren't very personal. I work as a home health aide and my employers hardly know me. I plan to use my longtime patient's family member to attest to my level of care and abilities. My second reference is one of my instructors from nursing school. I am unsure if I should use my dear friend as my third reference. She is actually a resident surgeon at a large hospital in my city. Because of her stature, should I list her? We have no professional ties at all though. Is this just a waste of the recruiter's time or an asset for me? Any advice would be very appreciated!!!!
