Applying for a non-existant job???

Hi everyone,

I am a second career BSN nursing student graduating in June. I have applied for every nurse intern position advertised and nothing.... I volunteer at a local hospital once a week and was thinking of emailing the nurse managers on several of the floors I volunteer on asking if they had any intern positions opening up or if they had considered making a new position. Is there any ettiquite to something like this? Just send a polite email? Include a resume? Any advice is appreciated.
