Would I make a good nurse?

I am halfway through my pre-reqs for nursing school but haven't begun the formal training yet. I have no health care experience technically, but I have an affinity for children and have decided to work towards pediatric nursing after working as a nanny and then an early childhood teacher.

I am a very artistic person! Can experienced nurses see this sensibility conflicting with the nursing profession? I was an art major (lit minor) and so I appreciate beauty and originality. BUT I LOVE SCIENCE AND HEALTH TOO! It's hereditary perhaps. I have just aced "organic & biochemistry" without even having taken general chem yet. It was my first science course in 7 years and it's contributing to new confidence to finally to pursue a career in medicine. However, I detest institutionalism and am skeptical about fitting in at a hospital.

Do you know any other artists who are nurses? Is there room for a balanced left/right brained person in this field? Thanks in advance for your kindness and attention. Last edit by newmusic on May 18, '11
You don't have to work in a hospital. You could do in home care or work at a long term facility FOR disabled children.
