career change at age 50?

I currently work for the court system, i have a law degree--but, i don't practice as an attorney. My job will be eliminated in a few months, and frankly, i'd like to take this opportunity to change careers. I've always thought of a career in nursing--but, for one reason or another other times when i've changed jobs, i was never able to take the time out to go back to school. Now, seems to be the perfect opportunity--but, is it too late? I am a very fit and strong person, so i don't think the physical work would be a problem. I suppose I'm worried that i will be seen as too old to hire as a new nurse, is that a valid concern?
Know of two attorneys who graduated from our school. Both were older than you. And they did very well in classes.
While your age will be a factor, it will not stop you from working once your get your license. Just go for it.
Thanks for the encouragement! I am going to go to the local college this afternoon to talk to someone about admissions--hopeful that there won't be any huge hurdles to leap. i'm excited.

ok, latest update: getting into nursing school in Maine is way harder than it was to get into law school in California! every program seems to have a 3 or longer year waiting list (after you've completed the pre-reqs.) are there any reputable online programs for an Associate Degree in Nursing (the two year degree, rather than the four?) Are programs everywhere this impacted? or is this peculiar to Maine?
