What are some things I can do for my resume?

I am in my second level of nursing school at a community college so it's an associates degree. I heard a lot of hospitals are only hiring BSNs, but there are few who still get hired with an associates. There is a nurse that just graduated in May from my school and she got a job at the hospital which is strict on getting BSNs and she was working there as a unit clerk. I work per diem as a patient sitter at a big hospital. Although, I don't do anything hands on, I thought it would be helpful. It's going to be almost 1 year for me. I looked into being a CNA so I sent in my application so all I need to do is take the written exam and I will get certified. I thought of trying to get jobs at different hospitals if they hire me so I can have a better chance of getting a job. What are some things I can do that would look great on my resume and have a better chance of getting hired? I know they want someone with a lot of experience so I'm trying to become a CNA. Should I volunteer at a hospice? Thank you.

When you are a sitter, ask nurses how you can help..You are a student so you should be able to do things such as vitals and I&O's etc. Make it known that you are a student and that you are interested in working for that facility. As long as there is no conflict, this will earn you respect and possibly a good reference, at very least you can proudly state on your resume that you went above and beyond you sitter responsibilities. Other than that, keep your grades high, participate in nursing clubs or anything else you can do to show that you are really doing this from your heart. Any hospital experience is a big asset. I am an optimist but I think that if you really want something, you can make it happen. Good luck!
