New grad from maryland wants to move to California

I will be graduating in May and sit for the NCLEX-RN in June. I am looking at the opportunities for new grads in CA and have noticed there are a lot more than MD! Can anyone tell me what it's like being a nurse in CA? Is it hard to get a job in an ICU as a new grad? I also have kids and will need a safe place with good school systems.
I am dying of curiosity where you heard that the new grad situation is better in California than in Maryland? CA is known to be pretty much the WORST place to get a job as a new grad.
I second what not.done.yet said. Where did you hear that nursing jobs are abundant in California? For every new grad program opening there are close to 700 applicants for 10-15 positions in California. Every new grad that I have talked to have told me that it took them about 6 months to 1 year to find a decent job. You have a family. Don't put them through the stress of moving across the United State just to find out there really isn't any jobs for nurses in California. Beside you should have known better now to realize that the media and advertising have lied to the entire world saying that there is a nursing shortage everywhere. P.S. There are twice as many foreign nurses coming to California. Why? No clue.
