Hospital Admin careerRating: (votes: 0) I think the MHA.I am guessing that you are a woman. If you want to be an administrator in other than a nursing role (CNO etc) you will be largely overlooked with the MSN, especially because you are a woman. IMHO Comment: I agree the MSN with admin will lead you to manager and then CNO track. If administrator is what you are after the MHA would probably be a better fit. VASTLY different jobs. And does the school matter for MHA?YES!! The good MHA programs offer internships and hands on experience to help you land a job.But no, if you have many years of experience in nursing and management. And are already solid in your hospital.Comment: Agree with PPs. If you want to 'climb the ladder' within nursing , an MSN is essential. However, if you're interested in non-nursing areas, an MHA is the way to go. Be sure to select a program that is highly rated, with at least a 1 year residency requirement. These programs are very competitive - so be prepared with a stellar GPA & entrance exam (GRE, MAT, etc) score. These days, I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to go into healthcare administration.... very uncertain future with poor job security and enormous stress... but your mileage may vary.
