Nurses who are also Veterinary Techs

We have such a diverse group here, I am wondering if there
are any nurses/nursing students who were or are currently
vet techs..
I'm not a vet tech, but I breed and show Burmese cats. I give my own shots, SQ fluids, deliver kittens, I can tube feed kittens too. I have also been asked to help restrain my cats at the vet's, especially my stud males (who are NOT mean but wiggly and strong). I believe there is one person on here who is a PCA and a vet tech.

There were at least two or three in my nursing program. I used to be a vet tech too, but that was a long, long time ago. I've cuddled with a few baby tigers:heartbeat

I was the barn manager and large animal vet tech for a horse hospital in So California for many years. Administered all the general anesthesia--ever see the ET for a horse? They are actually fairly easy to intubate. I worked at the horse hospital full time, and nursing part time.

I worked as a Vet Tech and laboratory tech for a Veterinary Hospital for 2 yrs prior to entering nursing school. Loved it sooooooo much, but the cost of living just doesn't get covered w/that salary. I miss it very much, the animals were such a joy to me. Yes, even the difficult ones... = )

I've always loved animals and worked at horse stables and dog kennels (yuck) when I was young. I started working with Veterinarians after high school and then became an operating room technician. I worked for a fantastic orthopedic veterinary surgeon for 1 year and then went to hospital work. Twenty-five years later - now a registered nurse. Last year I spent my vacation watching my sisters yellow lab who had a hip revision. Bless the beasts ! : )

That's the reason I came home yesterday reeking of uncastrated goat and anal glands. (Just graduated and still looking for a RN job.)

I used to be a vet tech-- worked in a large vivarium lab. Pay was crappy, but loved the job

I am currently working as an RVT and have been for 6 years. I start nursing school on Monday!! I love being a registered vet tech but feel there isn't the respect that we deserve, or the benefits, compensation, ect... I can't wait to start this new adventure!!!

I was a vet tech during the summer when I was in college...dang...many many years ago! It was fun, but I could not deal with the injustices that so many animals had to face. I couldn't do it now. My co-worker is a vet tech and she is also an OR nurse. She really loves it!

I currently work at a veterinary office in Atlanta. I used to be a tech but moved to front office work so I could go back to school. I have applied to nursing school and am currently waiting to find out if I got in. I originally graduated from surgical tech school in 2007 and got a job working at a vets office because I thought I may want to go to vet school and knew that they could work with my school schedule. I have really enjoyed working for a vets office but am excited about moving on to a field. I've seen some amazing things and don't regret my decision at all.

I was a vet tech - started in the kennels and worked all positions, ending up as a full time surgical tech. I loved it, but as a PP said, the cost of living made me look elsewhere. (also, I had a tendancy to bring my work home, which began to crowd the house a bit, and stretch my husband's patience )I have found a nursing job that I enjoy, but I still miss the four legged patients. (Once I took an on-line personality type quiz to find your "super power" Mine was animal communication. )
