what does the 0.2 mean when it says 12 hour shift 0.2Rating: (votes: 0) Thank you for any help for a newbie. deAnna Full time positions are usually 1.0 fulltime equivalents (FTE)=40 hr/wk. There are variations of FT 0.9 which is 3-12 shifts/wk. 0.2 position =8hrs/wk, I guess they could turn it into 12 hr shift. It all depends on their staffing patterns. Many ICU are on 12 shifts-it cuts down on schedule issues.Hope this helps,Skip Comment:
1.0 is 40 hours a week or maybe 36 hours a week if your place considers that full time. So 0.2 is around 14 hours every two weeks. I'm thinking that means 1 shift every pay period (if you're paid every 2 weeks.)

Thank you so much for clearing this up. I was thinking that it could be a percentage of a 40 hour week, but the 12 hour part of the post threw me off. I appreciate that you have taken the time to explain this to me. I feel like the health field sometimes has its own language.
