12 hours shifts

If you had it to do over again would you have opted for 12 hours shifts and why?
I'm actually ONLY looking for 12 hour shifts when I graduate in 2011. I'm going to be continuing my education and will be heading right to my MSN in the fall after graduation. So for my 2-3 12 hour shifts will be perfect. Even if I wasn't staying in school I'd want the 12 hour shifts. Personally I'd rather go in less days and stay longer as I hate driving =)

I currently work two twelve-hour shifts during the week. I prefer to work such long days because I feel like I can accomplish every thing that I need to do (99% of the time), and I walk away knowing that I had plenty of time to finish it all. I also commute to work, so it's a relief to get some hours in without having to come in almost daily to work. Downside: if something goes awry towards the end of a shift (a fall, seizure, transfer, etc.) I begin to lose my mind after the twelve-hour mark. By the thirteenth hour, my feet begin to throb!

My current workweek is 6 12hr nights in a row, then 8 off. I am in adult behavioura (psych), so I don't usually do a lot of lifting. I love it. I get to really know most of the pts on the floor and I get a very clear break twice a month. The worst part is night # one.... then i am all set.

I love my 12 hour shifts! You get sooo much time off! Granted, when you work 12 hour shifts, all you can really do is work and sleep for those 3 days, but it's worth it for all the extra time off you get!

Ditto... I love my 12's after many, many years in another field where I was an 8-to-6 x5 days kinda guy. Now I work 3 12's in a row and then I'm done. Time off is nice, less commuting, and the workday just flies by. I'd do 18's if I could.
