RN moving to LARating: (votes: 0) I'm not a nurse but a lot of my friends are new grads and the job market out here is pretty brutal! Good thing you at least have a BSN, that will definitely be an advantage. Good news is that there are many many hospitals in LA county, I'm sure with persistence you will find something. Oh and if you're going to rent near UCLA, get ready to pay an arm and a leg in rent. Unfortunately I don't have advice and tips since I'm not an RN yet, but I'm sure someone will help you out. And WELCOME TO LA!!! Comment:
You may also want to post this in the CA regional section to possibly get more feedback.

Apply away but do not be surprised if you are unemployed the entire six months that you are here with your husband. That is just the reality of the local job market.

Oh, I thought you meant the real LA....Lower Alabama!

I don't know about the psych out there, as they closed their state institutions years ago. Might try a hospital psych floor but usually they don't bite without experience. If I were you, I'd try to get a job in oncology again, if nothing else prevents you from doing so. I don't know that it's easy to switch specialties and get re-trained in this economy, but I've seen a few people do it! Good luck, LA is super expensive. And don't rent too far out or your DH will be driving hours to get to an early morning class.
