DO you ever use them? Which of your textbooks do you actually still use now that you are a nurse? I am moving clear across the country and can not keep all of these huge books. I would like to sell what I can. I know most hospitals have reference books and there is always the internet! Are there any "must keep" books? I want to sell my FON books (2 giant books) My med Surge (again 2 giant Texts) my Maternal & Child Health & possibly my Psych. Any input?

If I need them later I can rebuy them at my new place I guess. I just do not want to pay to ship & then have to lug these around!
Nope. Have kept some but never, ever used anything except my medical dictionary. I gave most of them away to friends who are now in nursing school. My floor has a lot of texts we can use at work for reference.

Comment:
Tabers, a book on labs, the med book. I buy a new med manual every couple of years. Oh, and since I write care plans, the Mosby's nursing diagnosis book.

Comment:
I also have just used my Medications book. I still have my textbooks, but I have been thinking about getting rid of them. They are boxed up and in my garage (and have been for 10 years)

Comment:
Get rid of them all. You can find all the info you need on the internet. Your unit will have reference manuals for your use. If you think you're going to go back to school, keep them. Otherwise, take them to the recycling center or give them to students who are getting ready to enter your nursing program. Offer them up on Craigslist. Burn them in the back yard.

I just moved as well and sold all of them on Ebay except the ones i think i may use (drug guide, math for meds, fon, medsurg, tabers dictionary, etc.) Also I took Kaplan and kept that course book because its a great review of everything.. I may sell even more now that I'm looking at my bookshelf! lol. good luck moving!

Comment:
none from my BSN program, but several from my MSN program as they pertain to my current jobThings do change and there is a lot of free info on the internet

Comment:
Quote from BluegrassRN Burn them in the back yard.

Comment:
Cost of textbooks 2 years ago= $1200 as a "had to buy" bundle from my school. Current resale value of all of them, about $210. How depressing is that?
