Pantoprazole IV question!Rating: (votes: 7) I know that protonix has just recently been approved by many places to be given slow IV push. And the newer formulation doesn't require a filter. Comment:
We Protonix slow IV push.

yeah I read that as well...Well I wonder why the heck it is being ran over 5 hours!
Comment:
5 Hours????? Wow!!!We run it over 60 minutes. We use to filter it, but now we don't. I do not know why.

I work peds and within the last year our hospital changed to the formula that doesn't require a filter. We run it for about 30-45 minutes. I have never heard it being for more than an hour, even in peds.
Comment:
We run it in as fast as over 15 min. I thought that you didn't need a filter anymore as long as it wasn't mixed with anything else .
Comment:
We run it over 30 minutes generally. Sometimes we will have someone on a Protomix drip and will run 1 bag over 5 hours, then hang another.
Comment:
we run it over 15 minutes too. No need for a filter anymore either. 5 hours sounds pretty crazy to me.
Comment:
Slow IVP, no filter needed anymore. When it first came out we ran it IVPB over 20 minutes on a separate line with filter. We IVP Pepcid too which used to be IVPB.
Comment:
I believe I just gave a Protonix 2 minute IVP last night. 5 hours! what a waste of a line!!!
Comment:
exactly! waste of my lines! well i will ask pharmacy the rationale on my next day...do you run it with say NS c 20 KCL? or just ns? this hosp does wierd stuff!!!!
