What was your first "paying" job???

2 I just thought it would be fun to find out what everybodys first legal "paying" job was. Babysitting doesn't count.. I will go first. At the age of 14 my first job was a motel maid at a Best Western motel...I worked there during the summer to earn money for my Drill Team uniform.
Scary thing is that during one of my breaks a friend of mine from high school and myself had left the "break room/laundry room" where a few other older ladies were also taking their breaks and had gone to the motel office for a soda. We had passed a man on the way, and when we returned noticed the door was closed; which it never was. I opened the door to find the man we had passed holding the older ladies at gun point and they were all naked. Had my friend and I waited even 30 seconds longer we would have been in there also and God only knows what would have happened. I eventually had to go to court in order to identify the guy. Thank God I wanted that soda...
Burger King. I worked there from shortly after my 14th birthday until I was 16 1/2.

A gift/clothing/clog/dollhouse shop !!! Very eclectic, and the boss was really nice. There had been a string of robberies at small businesses, and she told me I could keep the doors locked and only let in people I wanted to let in- and the guys in the camera store down the hall peeked in on me. It was a nice place. The summer before, I'd been a nature counselor at a summer camp.... snakes, raccoons, ferrets, squirrels, fish, a few salamanders, a nasty tarantula.....I got 25 bucks/week plus room and board

My first job was at a movie theatre. Some days I wonder why I left. All the free movies I could watch, plus free popcorn.

Lifeguard--great paying job at that age, but lots of responsibility. Upside--I've been CPR certified for decades!!

Dishwasher/bus-boy at a restaurant named "Sambo's". I was 17 years old. I drank hot chocolate with whipped cream (was fascinated by the hot cocoa machine), or Sprite with lemons in it my whole shift. Wage: $3.35/hr.

I worked as a waitress at a plantation home for weddings on the weekends during high school. Good southern food too. But I got paid under the table. First taxable job was at a grocery store starting 4.35 in the early 90's. (I still got my first pay stub) I loved it. Eventually I worked as an account supervisor at a call center for a big credit card. I hated it. Paid well though and learned a lot of financial info that comes in handy even today.

Church Secretary. I made 10/hr I think, which wasn't bad for a 16 year old with no experience. I read books all day in between answering phones and light paperwork. Easy but boring as anything. I do miss wearing office garb, though.

I also worked at Kinder Care in the infant room - and loooved it!! Got paid $3.80 an hour. I always said I would go back to that job if I could afford it.. At least the babies loved and appreciated what I did for them.
