How many of you have to pay for parking for your work?

I had been pretty shocked to hear some nurses have to pay for parking upward to hundreds of dollars a month. This just boggles my mind. I couldn't imagine my employer making me pay to park at my job.

So I was just curious how commen this is.

We have 4 local hospitals and you don't have to pay for parking at any of them. 2 of them have large parking garages for the employees that you badge in and out of.

The other 2 places don't have garages but you still don't have to pay.
I only had to pay at one in the late 80s....it was like 10 bucks a month- so not a huge deal. I think they quit doing that after a while. Every other place has had free parking- it might be across the block and have a shuttle from the lot to the hospital, but it was free

I'd be really angry if I had to pay to park at work. There'd have to be some compensation in my pay to justify paying for parking. My hospital provides free parking. I don't know of any in the area that charge.

I pay $10 every pay period(2 weeks). The hospital is located downtown and a private company owns the parking garage. Although the hospital used to own/operate the garage it became too expensive to continue so it's convienently connected to the hospital. If you don't pay to park you'll have to park on the street and pay and even then there are VERY few spots available. It's worth $20 a month to have a covered spot in 100+ degree heat and I don't have to worry about ice on my windsheild in the winter time.

This tends to be more common in certain areas, like Boston or NYC where everyone has to pay for parking and land comes out a premium. Often just getting parking in a lot at one's apt is 200-300 dollars a month.I pay about 65 dollars a month, which is a discounted amt. The charge for nonemployees is 12 to 20 dollars per day. Though in Boston, discounted rates of 70 per WEEK were common - I used mass transit - a steal at 72/per month.In many areas (understandably, not all), no one "makes" you pay parking in most areas. One chooses to use the employee lot. In most places, one can use mass transit, park on the street, carpool, park distant from where you work, or bike to work. They are less convenient, but are options.

I have worked at a smaller community hospital and staff had their own lot monitored by security which was free. Amother much larger hospital in my area it is free parking, but parking can be hard to find, they do have 2 parking gargaes, but employees can only park in certain areas, however as a perk staff get annual buss passes.Another large teaching hospital in the area charges staff $10 a day to park, and the employee lot is about a half mile from the hospital, NOC shift dosn't have to pay to park, the hospital that charges to park is in an area of the city where public transportation and bicycle riding is highly encouraged, they are developing more bike paths then roads.

I don't pay for parking. Don't know any hospitals in the area that charge for parking. This is a mix of urban/rural area (but not a city like Chicago or NYC).I suspect that if land is at a premium, more than likely there will be parking charges.Personally, I don't have a problem with paying for parking.cheers,

I pay about $400/yr just to park. And then I have to take a shuttle bus to the hospital!

Nah, there is so much land around my facility; they better not dare charge us to park there.

600 bucks a year for garage parking and I think 400 and some change for surface parking (which entails a rather long walk and is getting longer as they keep closing the lots to build more buildings on them). I sprung for the garage after a year of getting into a 140 degree car in the summer and scraping mounds of snow and ice off in the winter.
