RN working for insurance company?

1 how do you get a job as a RN working in a insurance company doing QA or physicals? i would like to get into this area of nursing. . thank you in advance

There are other types of jobs also (besides the ones already mentioned).I do chart reviews and go from site to site.Some people also do these online from home.I have done some of these also.There are some nurses who do case management for insurance companieslike workman's comp cases, etc.........there are office jobs and also field jobs.My company is MedAssurant -----www.medassurant.com.Another one is Corvel-----www.corvel.com. I work for a health insurance company and do clinical chart reviews to determine medical necessity. At the company I work for there are almost a thousand nurses that work across the country doing precertification, retrospective review and case management. Some work from home and others work in the office. It is great, no holidays or weekends and best of all nobody dies! The qulifications are usually at least two years of clinical but varied nursing experience is preferred. I have been working in the insurance industry for 15 years now.

I am a new nurse who has been working for about 3 months. I plan on getting at least a year of experience in the hospital, but I really want to move on to some kind of case management or basically any job a nurse does at an insurance company. Lately I've been trying to decide whether I should go back to school in the fall to get either an additional degree or my masters in some business/finance area to get into an office type job. My question is, with around a year of experience in the NICU, will I stand a chance at getting one of these jobs or will I need additional requirements due to my lack of experience in diverse settings?

I too am interested in performing assessments/physicals for life insurance or long term disability companies. I have done this in the past for extra money and loved it. Any companies you could share would be great!

SharonH or anyone,I am interested in supplementing my income and would like to know more about working with insurance company in my area (Middle Tennessee). I would like something outside of direct patient care and do not mind paperwork or working on computer. I am very interested in QI/QM, insurance, and education. I have some experience in chart auditing as we do periodic peer reviews at my current job. Most of my experience is in public health and working with clients who either have no insurance, or have TNCare. However, my experience is very broad, as we manage clients with diabetes, hypertension, and many other healthcare needs. Right now I am just looking to supplement my income but could possibly be interested in career change in the future. Does anyone know where I would start looking such as names of insurance companies, sites, etc.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you
