Nurses Week/Hospital Week

7 Am I the only one that thinks whomever started hospital week purposefully made it the same week as nurses week to avoid having to recognize nurses? Or am I just a crazed conspiracy theorist?
I'll join in with your conspiracy theory. Nursing Home week overlaps with it too. We have signs up all over the building with the week long schedule of events to celebrate Nursing Home week, with just a few (much smaller) signs announcing Nurses' Week.

I don't care either way. I got free **** after my shift last night.

I agree ... though with a slight modification. I think they chose the same week to save money -- figuring that they would only have to pay for one round of celebrations and recognition. Everyone else gets "hospital week" plus their discipline's week. When we nurses get our special week, we have to share the events with everyone else.Maybe we should start a movement to move Nurse's Week to some other time of the year -- and see how they react.

It also happens to fall on the same week as Teacher Appreciation week, so school nurses are left out too. We are far outnumbered.

Being a new nurse I was excited to celebrate my first nurse week but I have to admit I felt a little bummed out when finding out its hospital week as well. I remember seeing all the gifts, food, nursing shirts while in school and felt it was awesome how they showed the nurses appreciation. Oh well I got my free mug and chic-fil-a today (along with everyone else in the hospital, lol) so I'm happy!!

I don't think it was intended to NOT recognize nurses, but to recognize the whole health care team.

In my place of employment (insurance).. this is also employee recognition week.A brilliant strategy to get' er done in one week .This nullifies the Nurses's appreciation week!And... why is there national Housekeeping week?

And... Mother's Day falls in this week. Talk about "Let's show our appreciation" in a nutshell !

I was just thinking that....my hospital can't show us enough respect to celebrate a week that is designated specifically to us, they make us share it with the whole dang hospital!
