Where do you work?

Rating:
(votes: 0)

As a newbie to the forums, as well as only having a newfound interest in the nursing field, I'm curious about what type of atmospheres and job descriptions exist for RNs. I'm wondering if RN's primarily work in hospitals at bedsides, or is there a much wider variation?

So, what type of facility do you work in? What unit? Do you work part-time or full time? What type of shifts do you work? What do you generally do?

P.S. I'm not super familiar with all the abbreviations, if you wouldn't mind the little bit of extra explanation.

Thanks a lot!

Welcome, jlove86!So, what type of facility do you work in? 851-bed hospitalWhat unit? Stroke (with some medical)Do you work part-time or full time? Full-timeWhat type of shifts do you work? 7:00 AM to 7:00 PMWhat do you generally do? When I get to work, we have a short meeting in the morning, then we get report on our patients. I look up what medications they have due throughout the day and write them down. I assess my patients every 4 hours, check to see what orders were written, check lab & procedure results, draw labs (if needed), admit & discharge patients, etc.. I am a new nurse so I might be missing some things, but those are some of the tasks I do in a typical day.
