Quote from northmississippiDo you feel working on the weekends are more hecktic due to so much family being in the room?

Comment:
No. I prefer weekends.

Comment:
No. there are fewer procedures and interruptions for therapy etc.

Comment:
No, weekends are way easier because management and ancillary staff Is not there. Also, the phone barely rings on the weekend.

Comment:
Ditto what the others said. Weekends are more laid back; fewer doctors rounding, fewer diagnostic tests, fewer ancillary staff, fewer surgeries...there may be more family if they have weekends off to visit their loved one, but I find families much easier to deal with and still get my work done than with the rest of the above.

Comment:
Fewer scheduled surgeries, fewer scheduled tests, emptier hallways when trying to transport a patient, more money and free parking sweeten the deal. Some families are great to deal with and they can benefit the patient.

Comment:
That's true, sometimes having families present is actually a plus because the patients are occupied and often feel better with someone they love nearby.

Comment:
Working in the ED, weekends are usually a mess. It's amazing his many chronic issues suddenly become acute on Saturday morning.

Comment:
I prefer weekends due to the lack of administration, management, and other disciplines (PT, case management, dietary, SW, OT, ST, business office, marketing, etc). It is true that more family members tend to visit on weekends, but some charisma and good interpersonal skills can do wonders in keeping fires from starting.

Comment:
I don't feel like weekends are any different at all. It really depends on where you work. Codes, people going into respiratory distress, people needing CT, MRI, emergent intubations, line insertions, etc. can happen any time of the day or night, weekend or weekday.

Comment:
It depends on where you work.If your issues are visitors, that's pretty mild as compared to other issues that can arise due to less staff.

Comment:
For me weekends are easier. No management, no Doctor calls, no appointments, limited therapy..for some reason just an easier going atmosphere. Even our normally on edge residents are more mellow on weekends. I think it's because there is less going on. With less staff, less distractions, fewer overhead pages, less of a rush to get residents where they need to be there is also less anxiety for them.
