Hi.
I had the misfortune of taking The State Boards Exam several months after completing a BSN program. I did pass and am currently licensed, but because of my tardiness, I have had an extremely difficult time finding employment as an RN(being a new nurse is not helping my case either). Is there anything I can do that will make my status more appealing to employeers?(due to the circumstances)
I have a great passion for the nursing profession and feel that my gift is being wasted.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
"I have a great passion for the nursing profession and feel that my gift is being wasted."No doubt your talents are being wasted. Unfortunately, timing is everything and right now is just not a good time for nurses. Especially new nurses. When I say timing is everything, I don't mean your timing in taking your Boards. New grads who promptly took their exams, passed and became licensed are also without jobs right now.I think the only think that will work for you or anyone in your position is just plain perserverance. Apply, apply, apply and then apply some more. Network with anyone you can. Try not to feel that you are being singled out as unemployable - there are many, many others in your shoes.

Comment:
Go and speak with Unit Managers directly, I don't know of a single nurse at my hospital that was hired solely through human resources, HR rarely even calls applicants back to let them know they won't be hired.

Comment:
I've been on numerous interviews and most of the managers seem to focus on the large gap that I have between my graduation, taking boards, and now. I've been searching for almost a year and always get the same outcome.

Perserverance will pay off! It's just a terrible market for everyone all around right now.
