Asked to job shadow on the day of interview

1 Is this common? I have an interview next week at a hospital. Basically I meet with HR first to take a med test and personality test, then I meet with the Director, then I job shadow for 5 hrs. Am I going to be providing direct pt care? HR said I could wear scrubs? Would it be unprofessional to wear scrubs to the interview part? Should I wear nice clothes then change into scrubs?
This is similar to the interview format I went though also. I met with HR, then the hiring manager, then shadowed for a few hours. I was asked to wear business casual for shadowing, and was given a room and a few minutes to change my clothes between the interview and the shadow.

Did you get hired? Lol I sure would hate to spend 5 hrs shadowing and not get the job.

If it were me I'd wear scubs. I've worn scubs to interviews. For awhile there I owned nothing but one pair of jeans that my foster daugher passed on to me and some ratty Southpark t shirts. Yes, I am poor. A personality test? Is that the new thing? If so I am in big trouble.

I did!

I've heard of this, but not on the same day as the interview. I usually see it in difficult departments or ones that have a lot of misepresentation. They want to make sure you actually know what the job entails. The last thing they want is to hire you, then get you on the floor only to find you very unhappy and wanting to leave. It's a waste of their time. It seems like a good thing to me! Remember you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. Good luck!

Here is something I am beginning to "get" with those personality tests... the Gallup or other brands. I truly believe that when you are questioned if you are someone who others come to for answers or help... say "sometimes". Do not say "often". Any question that would make you appear that you can wipe your own butt, as well as show others how to wipe theirs, will target you as too much of a leader for them. I am not kidding. They want lemmings, not leaders.

Are you offered any compensation for 5 hours of shadowing? Working in Northern California for a unionized large nonprofit, there is no requirement to shadow for 5 hours. We call that orientation and are paid.

My job interview was like this - interview before, shadow after - and I was offered the job within 18 hours, hehe...Good luck!
