Volunteer work...in dilemma

I am new to california. Passed nclex rn on oct 2012. I want to work as a volunteer but dont have idea how to approach. I have heard we can get volunteer work in hospital but i am interested in nursing homes or rehabilation centres. Can anyone suggest me or tell me do nursing homes take registered nurses as volunteer. Would me very grateful for ur words
