I just got hired for a job at a clinic which is funded by the state. They forced me to have a flu shot and screened my cholesterol and other vaccinations. This is too much for me and the more I thought about it the more I did not want to work for such controlling people. This is too much into my personal business. There are many more doctors and nurses dropping out of the field just because they don't want to be controlled by the cholesterol and diet police.
You decided to take a job at a location that is funded by the government. They had certain conditions for hire, which you accepted as terms of your employment. No one "forced" you to have this done as no one forced you to accept the position.A state-run facility is far from the only location that will mandate a flu shot and other vaccinations. What, no pre-employment drug screen too? What kind of position is this? I assume by the forum you are posting on that you are not yet in nursing school. These types of pre-employment screenings are not unusual, especially if they offer a healthcare plan. The tests may differ, but a pre-employment physical with a lengthy health questionnaire is a possibility for ANY type of employment whether it is healthcare related or not.

I expect every job to do drug screens. That's not the issue. I just wonder how far will it go? I hear obamacare is asking personal questions about people's sex life. I don't plan on signing up but I still think that things are getting too personal. I remember the days when no drug screens were done and no vaccinations done. I never saw one adult with measles or mumps and I never saw a problem with people coming in drunk and stoned. I do see problems with the rising costs due to the statism and endless regs.
This is reality especially for a government sponsored employer. A healthcare facilities require vaccines and/or titers as a condition of employment to protect the patient and employee. You can't be assigned a measles or chicken pox patient if not immune. Many employers do routine labs in addition to nicotine & drug screens during pre-employment. This is for public, private, and government employers. It's reality. Just like unless you have a verifiable medical exemptions many employers require influenza vaccine as a condition of employment. The choices are accept the vaccine or seek employment elsewhere.
In my opinion, everyone in health care should have a flu shot. In fact, the hospital I volunteer at made even the volunteers get one. If no one got flu shots and everyone who worked at a hospital got the flu, who would be there to take care of the sick people?? It's necessary for prevention.
Hospitals in San Francisco require flu shots; if you don't get one, you are required to wear a mask during your shift.
Ok...where did they force you??You really could've declined to have a physical to medically clear you for the job...and chose another job. Also, can this be moved out of pre-nursing; what does this have to do with pre-nursing, if it's an employment issue?

I wonder why this is an issue; it has NOTHING to do with who is in office, the economy, chocolate, etc...having a physical and full lab panels as well as drugs screens have been around for decades; it's a standard practice in terms of being free of communicable diseases and healthy enough to perform the actions of the position. That is required, and one has a choice to accept it or not, and the employer will find someone else.
