MaternalChild Visits help chances getting into Maternity?

I am a School Nurse (with VERY limited hospital nursing experience) who used to do Maternal/Child home visits looking to get into Maternity at one of the local hospitals. I have an opportunity to work PRN at the hospital I'd prefer to work for doing maternal/child home visits for their Visiting Nurse Assoc. Do you think this would help me get the position I am ultimately trying for in the Maternity Dept? Thanks for any help/ideas you can give.
