New RN searching for a job-HELP!

I'm currently residing in Pensacola, FL. It has been several months that I am applying for a job but no luck at all and I'm getting frustrated. Can anyone tell me what agencies are hiring or considered new graduates? Also what do I need to do to get hired in the hospital? The hospital told me keep trying because they received at least 200 applicants aday. Well, that should make me feel better to know that i'm among that 200 people?
Try going for a credential while you are job searching, that should spice up the resume. It is of course another educational expense, tax deductable, but it would put you over the edge if you were board certified or credentialed in the area you were looking to work in. Good Luck, its not easy.

Keep your head up. I am a new grad as well and I got a job in a very competitive setting. The thing i rec. is getting ACLS or PALS if you are applying to a Tele/med surg floor. Also, try to get EKG certified. The more certifications you have the better you look on paper. Also, during the interview, show that you are there for the patients and not the "job". Hope this helps..

Hey Pow82,I hear ya! I'm a new grad as well and it took me several months before I got a job. What really helped me was obtaining additional certifications in the meantime while I was searching for jobs. Obviously, there's ACLS and PALS that you could take, but you could also go online and take the NIH Stroke Scale Certification course- which is FREE! (Woo Hoo!) It takes about 2 hours to complete and assures that you are competent in assessing patients admitted with a stroke dx. That has proven to be really helpful for me in my job search and it looks great on the resume. In addition, I would suggest maybe looking into taking some CEU courses. I have not taken any myself, but a lot of my friends have and they liked them. I know that it's really early to start worrying about taking those classes, since you just got your license, but a lot of interviewers will ask you what you've been doing to further your career since you've graduated and this would be a great answer. It might be good to also consider working as a UAP in a hospital if you have your CNA certification or volunteer in a hospital or clinic setting.Good luck!!!

HI, You are not alone. I passed my NCLEX in June. I currently have ACLS, BTLS, BLS, PALS and EKG certification. I will be taking my CEN exam next week. I apply to jobs everyday. I have sent out soooo many resumes with no results. It is very frustrating! At least I have a good paying job, but it isn't considered nursing (Paramedic). So for now I keep applying. I can't work as a CNA as my state will not allow you to work below your license.

Don't worry you are not alone. I graduated in Dec '09 and haven't found anything. I would paid for courses to get certified but I do not have the money to do so. What I would suggest is, when you apply for those positions, try giving the nurse manager a call, say HI, you're very interested and ask if they have recieved and looked at your appplication. I did that and was able to get an interview. Good luck!

Wow! I thought that nurses were in high demandin th U.S.Im a Brazilian nurse who gradauted in dec.'09 and it took me 6 months to find a job....in the meantime I did what the others advised u to do: took as much courses as I could because every interview Id go to theyd ask me what Ive been doing since I got my license....I really thought that thenursind job shortage was a brazilian thing....Good luck on ur endeavours, dear!

Me too, I have no problem taking anything. Now I'm in the RN-BSN program starting this summer and looking to take additional certified courses. It is getting too bad that I am considering volunteering in the hospital for free just to get myself in as internal applicant. My husband even agreed that would probably be best for now. What do you guys think on that?
