Saw this via Yahoo and I can't believe that some professionals in the medical field just accept violence as part of the job.

Nurses fear even more ER assaults as programs cut - Yahoo! News

I don't know anything about this but what training do hospital security guards go through for the job?
At my hospital they are like cops. We have a jail and they can arrest you. They are armed as well.

Comment:
Most security I know @ hospitals are old retirees that wander around and check doors. When things get ont of hand...You only called them if you needed a "witness" to your murder because theywere not capable of ANYTHING else.

Comment:
I've seen the whole range from no security to armed guards with metal detectors and dogs, bullet proof glass. On security hospitals tend to be reactionary. They'll put great security in place the day after you're murdered. Then of course, that yahoo article could be brought to the attention of the local press. Hospitals are also reactionary to public opinion, and if local reporters start sniffing around.........

Comment:
If I get in trouble, I'm gonna yell "CALL 911!" down the hall.

Try working in many acute psychiatric units. No security, minimal staffing, and if/when you get assaulted, the police are about 50/50 if they will actually pass the complaint to the district attorney as they know the D.A. will never prosecute, if they did, the judge would just throw it out as the defendent is "mentally ill," even if the Axis II was the primary motivation for the assault. The answer the employer gives: "Hey, if you don't like it, find yourself another job. No one's keeping you here."

Comment:
Our security are all commissioned officers of the County,...they all have badges and carry guns!
