Nurses do you immediately take bath after duty?

Say you had 8hours duty in the hospital and you're really exhausted coz of walking around the hospital to attend to the needs of the patients, now when you get home, do you immediately clean yourself up or take a few minutes rest first? and why? thanksredpinkheredpinkhe:redpinkhe
It depends. Back in school, I would take a shower before sleeping. Now, I work 12s in a LTC... which is extremely tiring, so when I get home, I usually just pass out. The exception is if I get any kind of bodily fluid on me. Then, I absolutely have to take a shower asap.

Ashamed to admit it, but no. The last 12 hr shift I worked beat me so bad that I just crashed on the sofa as soon as I walked in the door. Didn't wake up until about 1:30 pm to take a shower.

I am a nurse extern (still a student) and worked 12s over the summer. Most days I would not even hug my husband or boys until I got a shower and changed. Seems like the smells of the hospital (and incontinent patients) clings to me. That shower helps me transition from work time to family time.

yes, especially that i have my two years old twin. Before i hug and kiss and play with them i make sure I'm clean.

I just got off an hour ago... and I do believe it is that time!

I too need the outdoor decontamination shower...alas I do not have one...I do however, immediately remove all items I was wearing as soon as I get home, usually before I get a shower.....The shower depends on what I was exposed to during my shift...most times I change, quick wash and PASS OUT...I feel as long as I'm practicing good hand washing I should be okay til after I sleep..

I do everytime. Whether I work a 4hr, 8hr, or 12hr shift.. I get home; leave my shoes at the door and take a shower.

Quote from ms.pebblesDoes it have a negative effect on our body if we immediately take a shower even if we're really really tired??
