Improving my resume help!

Basic info: RN: graduated 2004, Passed Nclex 2005, License Finally released july 2010

I've been working as a Home aide and Nursing Home/Hospital companion for 12 years. I have no exprience as a RN yet. As a Hospital Companion my patients were bedridden stroke victims, with trachs and Gtubes. I assisted the CNA's with basic duties and sometimes helped the nurse and doctors with minor proceduires such as wound care. I observed a lot during my shifts as a companion. As a Home Aide my patients were mostly ambulatory with one being disabled w/ use of wheelchair. I provided total care...transport w/hoyer lift etc. With my 12 years of experience how do I make myself marketable to an employer??? I know the odds are against me somewhat but I have great faith I will be employed soon...this year definitely. I'm constantly tweeking my resume to make it more effecient. Also, what are some things I can add to my cover letter to deflect from the fact I did not work as a RN soon after graduating?
