I'm not a nurse so you guys tell me, I've heard rumors for years, and from actual nurses about people coming into the ED with things stuck in their various private orifices that they can't get out. Is there any truth to this? Just my morbid curiousity.
I will leave it at that due to my hysterical memories........renerian

HI: I am a student nurse. My sister worked at a hospital as a biomed tech (and I won't say where) and told me a story about gerbils this thread could be real interesting.

this is true, 2 weeks ago I took care of a pt that had a comb, toothbrush and a small tube of toothpaste in an orfice that should not have these things in it. The comb came out naturally in the ED and she was complaining of pain to that area. When I asked her about her pain she yelled "I just sh*t out a comb, of course I'm in pain!" I couldn't help asking, "Didn't it hurt when you stuck the comb up there?" She said it did and I told her that she shpould of expected pain when it came out. They sent her to the OR, put her under and when all muscles and sphincters were relaxed were able to get the other stuff out. The most surprising part was when I had to check the rectal area for bleeding she freaked out cuz she thought that I was going to do something to her bottom that would hurt! I think she did a good rnough job on her own! There is also a story about a table leg that I witnessed in the ED but that can wait till another time. People never cease to amaze me!

I remember a guy coming to the ER with a vibrator stuck in his rectum. The doctor's dictation stated, when he assessed the patient, he could not digitally feel the device, but could still hear the "thrill" of the vibrator (it was still going ) They had to take him to OR and once anesthetics were on board, the muscles had relaxed enough for the MD to press on abd.....and the device "slid" out.......................YUCK!!!:roll :roll : :roll

I had a patient that hid her dentures in her vagina. Guess that's rather common in the nursing home -- she was afraid those "old biddies" would steal her teeth. Even more interesting -- she kept some crackers up there, too. "I thought I might get hungry later." Can't even imagine EATING them!

Eeewwww....Had a patient on the floor that has had many hospitalizations for cucumbers up his rear that got stuck. Him and his wife are very open about it.

had a patient who was told that that a platano (HUGE type of banana found in hispanic countries) in the butt would help his protate problem. i guess he was embarrassed to go to the er when it would not come out so he waited some days. he did require surgery to have it removed. i saw the pix of the surgery in his chart. also had a guy who put a ring around his penis to help keep an erection. he got the erection but it swelled so much he could not remove the ring and the erection would not go down. every guy in the hospital was trying to help the md taking care of the patient. they were trying to find some kind of cutters to get the darn thing off.
