I have too questions that I am having a problem with and I am wondering if someone could help me.

What ion is in excess in acidic acid solutions?
  1. Cl-
  2. H3O+
  3. OH-
  4. Hydroxide
  5. hydrogen gas
A buffer functions to
  1. maintain a pH of 7.0
  2. maintain a neutral pH
  3. maintain a fairly constant pH
  4. decrease chances for survival
  5. dilutes bases
The answers that I chose was b for the first question and c for the second one.
Oh, one more thing I am having a problem writing a pH for a solution with a hydrogen ion concentrating of 3.7 x 10-5
You are correct, b and c.Why don't you guess the pH and I will tell you if you are correct?

Comment:
Your first 2 answers are correct.pH is equal to the negative log of the hydrogen ion concentration of a solution. I'm not going to do the math for you though.

Comment:
I came up with 4.43 log(3.7*10-5)=4.43

Comment:
Good job. That's what I would put too.

Comment:
I agree.

How about these questions are these right? What is the correct conjugate base for H3PO4?PO4-3H2PO4-PhosphateHPO4-2Cl-I chose number 2what formula defines pH?log(H+)log(OH-)-log(H+)-log(OH-)none of the aboveI chose 3What ion is produced in basic or alkaline solutions?hydroxideOH-Hydrogenboth a&b are correctnone of the aboveI chose 4If a solution has a pH of 3.5, which statement is true?the solution is acidicthe solution is basicthe solution has excess hydroxide ionsboth b&c are correctyou could never drink a solution with a pH of 3.5I chose 1

Comment:
Looks like you don't really need our help! I would agree with all your answers.
