Long hair male nursesRating: (votes: 0) i have a long hair up to my shoulder so I was thinking if it will decrease my chances of getting a job. thank you for your advice. Well. , i remember once there was a new surgeon , he was having a long hair kinda to his shoulder.. After couple days from working the head of the department asked him to cut it .. coz it didn't look professional .. And so he did. Yea i guess it does matter.. to give people a good impression . What's more important to you? Hair or job? I work with a guy who has long hair. He is one of the most professional, intelligent, and resourceful nurses I know. IMHO, If where you want to work has issues with long hair that is pulled back neatly (as expected for females as well), then perhaps you may want to reconsider working there.

People are still uptight about hair length! That's ridiculous. Anyway; it really depends on what part of the country you're in. Where I am no one bats an eye and plenty of male docs and nurses have long hair. They wear it behind when at work.I do know that facial hair is not big here. I don't know why; perhaps because it's the tropics.Me, I like long hair on a man.

As long as one is neatly groomed, it should not matter, but it is understandable if an employer is (more importantly, human resources) has issues with this. Double check employer dress code as this is something to consider. I understand others who may have the idea that you may want to consider working somewhere else, but in all actuality employers do give equal opportunity, if you work on their standards. Good luck...

Soooo much depends on where you are applying. Some faith-based hospital systems have all kinds of rules, even about how many piercings one has in their earlobes (I am talking...not more than one). Others allow tongue rings. Different everywhere.

Just put it in a ponytail

I have long hair pony tails work great. As long as its not falling in your eyes and staff or patients are not complaining i don't see a problem. I use Gel ( Yes lady's i do) to comb my hair back then i put it in a pony tail. These are my thoughts use them as you wish......

*drool* Oh sorry, I've got a thing for long-haired men !!!Anyway, I don't see why it would be a problem, as long as (like we female nurses) you keep it out of your way and neat.

if you cut your hair you will loose all your nursing power, skills and judgement...just like hercules.

I would just consider what part of the country you are living in/applying for work. In my neck of the woods, it wouldn't fly. Personally, I can't stand long hair on guys.

Personally, if hair is clean and tied up, I don't care how long it is male or female. I have a coworker with really long hair to her butt, and she never ties it up. She is inordinately proud of her hair, as if it takes some special talent to grow hair, lol. I am forever finding her hair strands everywhere, and frankly, it's gross. There is a male nurse I work with who used to have very long hair in a ponytail but he cut it off to get the job b/c he know the culture of the place and that he would NEVER be hired w/ a ponytail. He probably hasn't had a haircut since, and that's been about 10 years, lol. He is an outstanding nurse, so he gets a pass on the ponytail, though pts do complain about it now and then. I have super short hair, and I had a pt complaint about me b/c of it. He said I must be a dfyke (his word, not mine) and that short hair on a woman was unbiblical and he didn't want anyone like me taking care of Him. He didn't get any traction with that, but it was amusing.
