Kinda Nervous!

So I am finishing my first semester of an ASN RN program (ONE lecture, ONE clinical YAY!!! ) I worked in a LTC facility as a CNA for the last 6 months, and it was strict CNA duties (NO sugars, no foleys, nothing exciting!) Well I finally decided to resign last week, I submitted my two weeks the DON called me in and asked me to change it effective immediately they had no need for employees who did want to be there (Can ya SEE why I wanted to leave lol!) Well I applied for a Nurse Tech III position at large Florida hospital close to where I live, and an acquaintance put in a good word for me and I got a call back from the HR recruiter! The interview went great she let have my pick of the department, shift, prn or FT status, we even discussed pay. We set up a time and she said I would see her first in HR then she would walk me to the ER for a meeting with their clinical coord. and would introduce me to some of the staff there... I am excited and WAY nervous! I feel like this is the opportunity of a lifetime (Besides getting into nursing school of course! ) because this will get me in the door to right to the ER after nursing school. So I have two questions one... what in the heck is a tech III (one of the requirements of the position was that you were in nursing school) I am so used to just being a CNA so I am wondering what that entails even my nursing instructor did not know a difference... and two should I be excited? I feel like I have a REALLY good shot at this job, but I do not want to get my hopes to be crushed, I really COULD NOT handle that right now with all this finals crap... so I REALLY hope you all can help me!
Congrats on your job!I just find it a little odd that your job duties weren't mentioned whatsoever with the position you were applying for. When I went in for my interview they went over every single aspect of what the job entailed so that they could be sure I could do all the tasks. I'm not familiar with what a Tech III is because every single hospital and LTC has different titles for the essentially the same job. You will more than likely be drawing blood, EKGs, pulse ox, 1:1s, glucose readings, collecting samples, taking vitals along with the usual CNA work you did in LTC.

I've never heard of a nurse tech III. We only call them NA's and they are an NAI or NAII, which is based on your level of certification.

that term is probably hospital specific and may mean you are a nursing student. As you progress thru nursing school your job classification may change. They should provide you with a job description so you will not be doing tasks reserved for licensed people (even if you know how to do them, it may still be illegal in your state).

Well the interview went great, lasted about an hour. We discussed my qualifications and all the meat for like 10 minutes and then the rest of the time the Clinical Coordinator pretty much cut the fool with me, she really seemed to like me! The Clinical Coordinator of the ER gave me a grand tour, introduced me to one of the charge nurses who gave me a run down of what it is to be a tech in their ER. The charge nurse said he saw no reason why I would not be hired, but it was not his final decision of course. The HR recruiter gave me her business card and said I might hear from her today or more than likely tomorrow. Also I just checked the website and they took down the position from the site so now I know they have their candidate but I am so nervous if that is me! I learned what a Nurse Tech III is! Nurse Tech I is a basic CNA, Nurse Tech II is an advanced CNA (d/c IV's, insert & D/C foleys, EKG, Sugars) and a Nurse Tech III is someone who can also unit clerk when needed... so voila revealed that mystery! Thanks both of you for the support, now I just have to hope and wait!!!

first off hope you got the job!but only thing that worries is they have a tech inserting & D/C foleys? that doesnt sound right to me? id double check on that one?when i was a tech that was so not allowed and only some could to IVs if they had a EMT-I cert,id check your states laws on what a CNA can and cant do in a hospital setting...

When I was a Student Nurse Extern (sounds similar to what you applied for, but under a different name), we were allowed to D/C foley's, but not put them in. I know in my state only an LPN/RN can insert a foley due to the sterile nature.
