Surgical/Tele Interview & Relocation

Hello everyone,

I am a RN,BSN; I graduated Villanova University's BSN Express Program back in 2009, got my license, and have been struggling to find a "proper" nursing job since. Finally, after thousands of rejection letters, I got my first call from a hospital for an interview - a hospital in NY. I live in Philly, and have had no luck whatsoever finding hospitals jobs....so I've been forced to look into relocation. Anyways, the interview is Saturday for a surgical telemetry floor, and I was wondering if anyone would share their experiences on this floor. Also, if anyone can help me out about relocation....share their experiences, anything like that. If I get the position (fingers cross); it'll be completely new to me. I've lived in Philly all my life, and it's rather disappointing that for the last year and a half, I haven't been able to find anything (except for agency work); not even in the tri-state area. I've researched some interview questions people have posted on here - - very helpful. Any other advice, suggestion, whatever, Im all ears.

I just went on 2 interviews one for tele unit and a med/surg/rehab floor.Questions that i was asked:1. Give me an example of how you made a positive difference with a patient? 2. Give me an example of when you had a negative encounter with a co-worker and what did you do about it?3. How do you deal with pressure, especially when you have a patient that goes from stable to unstable?4. How would your previous employers describe you?5. Do you feel comfortable speaking with doctors, families, PT, OT?There were many more but I can not remember...I didn't get any questions about specific diseases, labs, meds, etc.Good luck!

The above questions were similar to what I was asked as well (I just had an interview for a CICU/telemetry position on Tuesday and was offered a job on an acute rehab unit/med surg last week). I've also interviewed at SNFs/LTCs and had similar questions. Never once did I have a question about labs, diagnoses, treatments, meds, though I know I will have a med exam during orientation.-Be prepared to speak about your strengths and weaknesses-I had to speak of a time of conflict, either in a previous job, or during school and how I handled it-What my long term goals were-Why nursing? Why this specific unit? Why that specific hospital/facility?and be sure to ask them questions too-RN to patient ratio-any QI endeavors going on on the unit?-how long is orientation?-what is the greatest challenge that new grads face and any advice that they could give?-are there any committees/nursing counsels that you can participate in? What type of professional development opportunities are available?What part of New York is this interview? I am originally from upstate (though live in NH now).Good luck!!

went on interviews very similar to the above comment in manchester, nh and had the exact same questions. No detailed questions about labs, disease process, etc. Definetly make sure you ask questions at the end, they like that!!GOOD LUCK!!!!melmarie23 have you been looking for a job for awhile in nh? i also expanded my job search to MA-but kept my search to under 30-40 miles. my per diem offer was for a position in one of the manch hospitals

Congrats on your job offer and your son!!! Sounds like we did interview for the same position, small world! I also have looked into Mass also with no luck...I took some time off to be with my son then I started seriously looking a few months ago. Thank you everyone for your assistance. I appreciate it greatly. the hospital is in binghamton, ny. anyone ever been? if so, any info you can give about it would be awesome!
