Joint Commission choose me...question!

Rating:

Yesterday The Joint Commission came to the hospital and I was one of the lucky ones they choose to follow and ask questions to for like 45 minutes! I had to give a "tour" around our unit and explain how things are done and where things are. They also reviewed one of my patient's charts. I'm wondering, is QPM an acceptable abbreviation? The guy who was following me made a note of it and said he needed to look it up and see if it is an acceptable abbreviation. I know it's kinda silly, but this has really been bugging me and I can't seem to find the answer online. I looked on the Joint Commission website and only found a list of unacceptable abbreviations and it wasn't on there. Anyone know?
I've never seen qpm. Only q day (with a time specified) or qhs. What was the medication?

Comment:
Quantitative Phase Microscopy? Quasiparticle Phonon Model? Quaque die Post Meridiem (Latin: Every Day After Noontime)

Comment:
"Quit Pushing Me"???

Comment:
Has qpm ceased to mean every evening or have I wandered into another world? Failing that I guess it could mean quantized pulse modulation.

Comment:
every evening...

The best abbreviation for medical charting is NO abbreviation. I've never seen qpm either & I have almost 37 years as an RN.

Comment:
Some of the MD's in my office use it but I'm not sure if it is an accepted abbreviation.

Comment:
i don't remember what medication it was, but it's how the doc wrote the order so i just copied it to the paper MAR. I wonder if we'll get dinged for that. It's so annoying too because i never see orders written that way, it was a doc i don't usually work with. ugh

Comment:
I've never seen it either - and my job was auditing MARS and orders. I see qAM or qXXX time if other than AM or HS.

Your resource should be your facilities P&P. I wouldn't sweat it at this point, however if you are asked a question by a JC surveyor you could just point to your references (P&P) that you have available. You can't know everything, but you do need to know where to get your information.

I was thinking "q" anything isn't to be used anymore. But out computerized entry system has a "qpm 21".But I would suppose you could do a "qpm cc" for basically, "with dinner," makes sense to me

Comment:
QPM- Questions per minute from the admin types, like JCAHO. Not to exceed1-2 for more than an hour. Yep, that's it.
