Starting to feel a little bummed out about finding a summer job.

Recently, I've applied for some Nurse's Aides positions at the local hospital. Even though I only applied last week, I feel as though they should have been contacted me or something. I called them this week to ask about the status of my app and they said if recruiter wants to contact me for a second interview, I'll get a call.

I was confused and told them that I hadn't even had a first interview. They then told me that the nurse externship interview that I had back in February counted as the first interview. The thing is that the nurse externship starts in June and I haven't gotten any feedback from that interview so I'm assuming that they didn't want me and that means that I might not get these aide positions either.

In the currently situation I'm in (no healthcare experience outside of clincials, no car so I'm not able to travel to hospitals that are far away and apply to them, thus leaving the local hospital as my only shot in getting my foot in the door, and almost no money [this leaves very little opportunity to network effectively]), I don't think this is gonna be a very good summer unless by some miracle of God I get a call and get hired. This job would really help me because it'd give me the experience that I need and keep my skills and knowledge sharp for the upcoming third and hardest semester of nursing school.

It also seems that all my classmates without HC experience are getting these sweet jobs at the perfect time (right after the semester is done and being hired for the summer) and that makes me doubt myself even more... I feel as though I'm making all the wrong moves too EARLY without the proper guidance.

I don't really know how to get them to take a better look at me besides calling up there weekly and giving them my name and asking is my application has been reviewed or looked at.
It took my hospital 3 months to get back to me. Be patient.

Give them at least a month to get back to you. If it was an online application, follow up with an e-mail or phone call stating you are really interested in the position. But seriously, at least a month. Hang in there!!

Have you tried applying for jobs as something other than an aide? I know that would be the best job to have but if you could work for dietary or transport at least you would be in the hospital and an internal applicant if something came else up.

If your financial situation is that desprate you should really start looking at ANY job. Not just healthcare. I know it's what you want, but what you want and what you need might not mesh just yet. Good luck.

Money is money, and if you need it then take what you can get while still looking for that perfect job. Maybe you could take a job and save up enough to get a car and then you could apply at hospitals further out. It's not moving backwards, it's making ends meet. I had a BSBA and was working at Blockbuster because that's all that was available where I lived at the time. Do what you have to, but don't put yourself in a bad situation waiting for what you WANT when you can find something else that meets your NEEDS.

Yeah, that's some good advice. I guess I am gonna start having to apply to retail and other dead end jobs like crazy. IDK man, I'm just trying to not become stuck in the "cycle of retail/dead-end jobs."I've worked in both before for 3 and half years and I was trying to never go back if I could help it.

If you're certified as a nurse aide it will help you get a private care job until you hear from a facility. And consider other options like SNF and ALF...not the most fun necessarily, but if you really are all that desperate, make sure you consider ALL your options (not just your preference).
