I feel defeated

I felt so happy and elated when I found out I got the job that I was really looking for, on a floor that was my passion. I feel defeated because one of the stipulations of the job was to have my RN license before aug 8th. I submitted my information to the board of nursing on time and everything was looking great. I called constantly checking progress of my endorsement.

I was told that I should have my license issued a couple days ago to today. When I called on my break today to see if it had been issued the person on the phone informed me that my background check info was never sent to the state police and fbi and they never had a record of it being received, however, I called and verified on multiple times that this information was there. I even went to the in person to make sure everything was there because I did not want any issues. I was told and assured that everything was there. So I was shocked to say the least when the person on the phone informed me of the situation. I asked how this was possible, person on the phone said they did not have any answers for me so I asked for her to make sure she was looking at the right person. It was confirmed she was indeed looking at my file. I was devastated.

I immediately went to my nurse recruiter in HR and described the situation, she was blown away and called the board and got the same story as I described. She then told my recruiter that if I resubmit all of my information that it will be completed in about 4 weeks. This basically voids the job offer that I was fortunate enough to have gotten. I have a final meeting with HR and my managers and the CNO tomorrow afternoon.

I just dont see how this can turn out well for me, the board of nursing told my recruiter that the earliest I could get my license was aug 29th. i am just sad that I will likely be fired from my first ever nursing job because of something that was completely out of my control.
This is why it is best to have license in hand when job hunting.

I'm so sorry to hear that OP. A few of my pals from school had slip ups with the licensure thing. I know that our brightest folks do not work at the BONs. It's more likely that they messed it all up and really don't care about ya.

If it helps any, you weren't fired. This IS out of your control. You won't have an employee file since you hadn't started working. There should be no problems with references, and if there is, you can tell them the truth at your next job. I'm SO sorry this is happening. :heartbeat

I have actually started working, I was in orientation on all week. So I have gone through a lot of steps to be here, and it just feels like the rug is being ripped out from under me.

They've already spent money on orienting you. There's a good chance they'll keep you on so they don't have to spend that money again orienting someone else.

That would seem kind of ridiculous, canning you before you have a chance, after they have spent time and money on your training, for some SNAFU completely outside of your control.If you have anyone with a brain in HR that comprehends this situation, hopefully they can amend your agreement rather than tear it up. Don't panic until the bad things happen. Best thing is to make sure the problem is solved so it doesn't repeat, then make sure everyone you contracted with really grasps the situation. All you can do at that point is pray they have a brain and are reasonable...There is frustration, but certainly not shame in the situation. If they wanted you once, they will want you again. If the worst case happens, it won't be permanent, just a delay...Good luck Brother Murse...
