Problem Already for New Grad!

Hello to all! I am a new grad (well, on March 3rd), and I already have an issue. If an x-ray comes to me with "stuff" on it (I have NO idea what it is, but it's just a tiny bit of "stuff", and a little wrinkle, how do I go about fixing it? Is this material plastic? Can I wipe it with water? Soap? Is it possible to put a hair dryer to it to get the wrinkle out? Is this crazy or what? LOL... my patient loves her xray, and placed it in her little closet and it somehow got this way. She cannot afford another one (as we know how expensive they are!) so I was trying to help her out, as she wants to (yes, it's true...) frame it. Can anyone help? And, lastly, I want to introduce myself. This is a WONDERFUL place for students, grads, and experienced nurses, and it looks like there is room for all of us, and respect rules the roost. I love it. Thank you for all your posts, and I just wanted you all to know that it feels like I'm joining a community here, and I feel right at home after reading many many posts. Nice place to be! Maybe you could ask an x-ray technician the best thing for your pt's x-ray. If I may be so bold to ask: What is the x-ray your pt is so proud of??? And welcome to the group!

ACTUALLY, in learning more about it, it's an MRI scan, and it's of the head, as if you were looking down from on top of the head, and the "slice" of picture would be at the eye level. Some shots are lateral, some are vertical, and some are angular. The funny (really funny) part is, one of them actually looks like the monster in the movie "Terminator" (mouth and all, remember the monster that was invisible?), and one resembles a "conehead" from Saturday night live, (remember them? because of the angle) and another she said her aunt would love because it looks like her favorite flower, some kind of rose... so.. that's it! I will ask a tech, but I'm on my third one... you would THINK they would know... but no....just my luck!

Wild. My next move would be to get in touch with whoever supplies x-ray with the film. Keep me posted!

Thanks, for some reason your post gave me a chuckle. It brings to mind my own problem. The place where I have been going for mamograms, sonograms and other things on out patient basis has gone belly up. Last time I was there they presented me with 20 years worth of xray films. I have no idea how to store them.

Believe it not, I used to be a photographer in the days we used film. My suggestion is a cool, dark place if you're going to keep them at home. Can you give them all to your primary physician? Or ... you can follow hodapp8's pt's idea and display them in a gallery! :wink2:

You can easily wipe if with a damp cloth, the picture is embedded in the film, it will not erase. However, it can fade over time, a long time.

I've washed my xrays b4 under warm water and hung on the washing line to dry! (got heaps of stuff spilled on them one day). They were fine after that.One thing...don't panic! Everything has a solution. If ur unsure of anything, always ask other experienced staff.
