Before I became a RN I was a Licensed and Registered Dental Hygienist. I also had gotten my Bachelors and Masters in Health Administration. I was teaching at a Community College in the Dental Hygiene program but could not get into a tenure track or full time professor...one day I was at a career fair with the head of the Nursing Dept and she said, "why don't you come on over to the nursing program, I'll sign you up..." I said, "sure"...(on a whim)...I NEVER wanted to be a nurse...well, the next thing you know I am signed up for 19 credit hours!!!! I had to take Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology over again in addition to all of the nursing courses because mine were too old...and I had just gotten a divorce...and I had a 10 year old little girl...and I had to work part time as a RDH...but I DID IT...(that was my first year of Nursing school)...it was a blurrrrrrr...but I did great (a 4.0)...so now 20 years later, here I am still schlepping away doing this stuff......I was 40 years old...when I became a nurse...That is why I feel like if you really want something...you do not let anything stand in your way...you just do it!!(and I am still not sure why I became a nurse)

I was a CNA. RN at the age of 24. I'd like to expand my career, but hey, have you seen tuitions lately? Sheesh. I'll be dead before the loans are paid off.
