holiday pay this year-what??

1 So since Christmas Eve/Day and NYE/Day fall on Saturday and Sundays this year we are not getting holiday pay because there is already a weekend differential...what?? How does this even make sense! big thumbs down! Is this how most hospitals are handling holiday pay this year?
Our hospital observes Christmas on dec 26 and new years on jan 2. Those who work the weekend will get regular weekend pay on the holiday itself but those who work the Monday after the holiday get holiday pay.

Ohhh that is so crappy! I would be protesting that!

You get weekend differentials? Stop complaining! I would rather have weekend differentials than holiday pay for two days out of the year...you can have my holiday pay, I'll take your weekend diff

I work at a union and we all get 8 hours of pay for holiday whether we work or not. Those scheduled to work get paid regular pay then receive their 8 hours extra pay in addition to their pay.

Virtually all nurses on the weekend are "weekend option." So they are not working holidays at all per se. If it isn't on the weekend, it's not an issue for them. Most years it works out great for them. THIS year the worst of all possible worlds. They need to work Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Years Eve and New Years Day. All 12 hour shifts, with no extra pay. The hospital will schedule 1/2 the other nurses too as their holiday obligation, but they are allowed to ask off, whereas the weekend option will not, as if they do they will lose too much--- 1/2 the "weekend bonus" that goes along with the weekend option, per day.

We get paid time and a half, but only if you are a full time employee. If you are part time or prn or were hired within the last 90 days you get regular pay. Needless to say if you have been with the company for a while you WILL be working holidays. Why would you agree to work if you were part time or PRN? It's a great way to reward the long term full time employee, by forcing them to work all the holidays! But also, no weekend or night differential, and only 8 hours of holiday pay while you work 12. If you don't work the holiday, no holiday pay. Pick your poison.

we don't do weekend differential. Just time n a half for holidays. I agree with the others a consistent weekend differential probably works in more money.... Just sayin.

Our unit doesn't have weekend only nurses. They are just split up (though some choose to self schedule themselves that way)Usually we get 8 hours comp time regardless of whether the holiday was worked, and time and a half for hours worked on the holiday. Which is great! Thats why I feel in comparison weekend differential is not just compensation for having to work these holidays.

Cheap jerks......that would make me MAD!

if i work the weekend...double time and a half or a day off with time and a half!
