to nurse managers and nurses involved in the hiring process

I was just wondering if a nurse applicant coming from another area goes on to apply in your unit (which is different from the applicant's) has any bearing on the decision for you to hire him/her?

Does that give lesser chances to others who doesn't have experience in the same unit?

I came from an HD unit (so sometimes being pigeon-holed as a hemodialysis nurse ONLY comes in once in a while). I know HD nurses are quite limited with the skills they perform in the unit (no NGT feedings, tracheostomy care, etc) so I don't know if that affects the chances of being hired on another unit. Does it?

P.S
I hope this query will not be made fun of. I saw a thread about stupid questions on decision making being slaughtered by other nurses LOL. It's a funny thread though.
